Sadie, my boxer dog will be 7 years old this 4th of July. Her birthday really suits her because she has been a firecracker kind of dog, bouncy, lively and loyal. Because of my impending China trip, I am giving my dog away today. This morning we had our last walk on the beach and our last after doggie bath cuddle. For my previous China adventure I had farmed Sadie out to Cathy and Joel who graciously took great care of her, but before I depart on this years adventure I figured it would be better for Sadie to have a more stable and permanent situation with an owner that is not addicted to travel the way I seem to be. Brent and Allyson (who would frequently doggie-sit for Joel) fell in love with Sadie and the feeling was mutual. So last night I signed over the AKC papers and tried to tell Brent about all of Sadie’s quirks and tricks. This evening they will pick her up with all of her beds, blankets and toys. I know in my heart I am doing the right thing but boy does my heart selfishly hurt. I will really miss her.
